A BACIA HIDROGRÁFICA DOS RIOS PIANCÓ-PIRANHAS-AÇU FACE À SECA DE 2012-16

RESUMO – A região semiárida no Nordeste do Brasil passa por um de seus piores períodos de seca severa. Isso se deve, em grande parte, pelas condições do fenômeno do El-Niño no Oceano Pacífico. Neste artigo, pretende-se abordar os aspectos de gestão de recursos hídricos, tanto pelo lado oferta, quanto pela demanda, face à atual seca extrema, compreendendo o período de 2012 a 2016. Com a redução da precipitação e da consequente vazão afluente aos principais reservatórios da região, é de fundamental importância a operação dos reservatórios responsáveis pelos principais usos de recursos hídricos na região: a agricultura irrigada (com uma área estimada de cerca de 50 mil hectares na bacia); a aquicultura; o abastecimento humano e industrial, dentre outros. Ações visando ao uso racional da água, de monitoramento, bem como de negociação e de comunicação também foram empregadas.

ABSTRACT – The semiarid region in the Northeast of Brazil is going through one of its worst periods of severe drought. This is due, in large part, to the conditions of the El Niño phenomenon in the Pacific Ocean. In this article, we intend to address the aspects of water management due the current extreme drought, by the sides of supply and demand, in the period from 2012 to 2016. By the reduction in rainfall and the consequent flow tributary to the main reservoirs in the region, it is of fundamental importance the operation of the reservoirs responsible for the main uses of water resources in the region: irrigated agriculture (with an estimated area of about 50 hectares in the basin); aquaculture; human and industrial supply, among others. Actions aimed at rational use of water, monitoring, and negotiation and communications were also employed.
